Too many closets give the possibility to save thing, which you no longer use, and then you become less selective. Everything, you don't use, is thrown into the closets, and then you forget all about them, and all of a sudden you have no space. So to have a lot of closets and storage furniture can create clutter, as strange as it may sound, but of course you need space for storing the things you need.
I repeat :-) Storage for the things, you NEED!
If you want to test, if you store too much in your closets and cabinets, then see how many places you have to move 3 items, before you get to the thing, you want. If so, then you have too much stuff.
It is a pain not to have space, but we all have to acknowledge, how much we are able store, and it is the best incentive to own exactly, what gives value.
When each item has its place, it is easy to keep surfaces free, so you home doesn't turn into one big drop zone covered in things, because you don't know where to put them.
Clutter is stuff, we just drop. If your belongings have a 'home', it is just as easy to put them there, as it is to drop them on the floor in the entryway or on the kitchen counter.
Then the surfaces become free to the use, they are meant for, and you don't have to move anything, before you start something - which is more fun.
Storage spaces should function. Not accumulate.
