Hvad er din luksus? - What is Your Luxury?

I never get tired of my old Nagel candle holders

And this old beauty will never change hands either

These are a couple of things, which add luxury to my life

A long time ago I read an article about a young designer, who lives in a very spartan way, because he still is studying. He admitted, that he wanted to do something to his flat, but the money wasn't there, so it had to wait. But he still felt, that he had luxury in his life.

He loved bed linen of good quality and silver candle holders. That was his luxury.

The silver candle holders were bought 2nd hand, and he had bought them one by one after careful consideration. They were standing on the middle of his table in a circle and in all their simplicity they looked like... luxury. The bed linen was of good quality, and he loved it, when it was ironed and smelling nice - just like I do! Maybe that was why I read the article with such big interest.

But when I read it, I got a clear idea about, what I feel is the luxury in my life. That is the things, which have been functioning for me year after year. My bed linen, my hairbrush, my big black bag etc. The items, which I take for granted, and don't think about replacing with something new - just to get something new.

Maybe that is the way, it is. That real luxury isn't about owning the most expensive or the most trending items, but to own things, which work, so  you never get the impulse to change it?

But this young designer had thought out a way how to do things. He didn't have the money to do exactly, what he felt like right now, but on the other hand he didn't buy something else to 'fill out' the space. He built his home slowly and took the time to think about, that the things, he buys, have come to stay.

Most people own a lot of things. So many, that the things, which really matters, are drowning in the piles, and most us already own all the stuff, we need.

So give it a thought - what do you consider is luxury for you? Maybe it isn't the next new thing, but something, which you already own and is working well for you? When you have found that out, you might not go hunting for the next new purchase!

Maybe that is the simple way to define luxury?
