The books I mentioned, and my Grandmother's hymn book
One of my friends has family, which were some of the founders of Solvang, California, USA. We talked about it the other days, and it was very interesting. She has deeds in her possession from that time and other papers, which are from the big farm here in Denmark, which was her childhood home.
We talked about our family histories, and we came far. Like her I have my treasures, which goes back to the 2nd World War and before that. My Grandmother was a ladies tailor and had her own business. From that time I have her ledger showing how much she got from making a wedding dress and other garments. I also have my grandparents grocery account book, where you can read, what the costs for food and cleaning products were. It is fun and educational.
So long time ago - and not really, because it is all about people, whom my friend and I remember, and they were the foundation of our lives.
At the same time these items don't take up much space, but they tell a lot.
When you save memories, think about how much space they are going to take up. Think about how stressful they will be, if they are big and/or heavy. Do you have several moving boxes filled, or do you have a shoe box? I am so sure, that a shoe box will be taken out a lot more than the 5- 6 moving boxes, you have in the basement or in the attic.
Memories can be good, big ballast is always bad. Don't let the good memories drown in the crowd.
