Mit juletræ - My Christmas Tree

Now I have bought myself a Christmas tree. It has never happened so early, and it has never been of this sort or size. Which means that in fact it isn't a Christmas tree. Not at all a Christmas tree. And it is crooked. But nevertheless it is going to be my Christmas tree. The reason is that I am not the one in charge of Christmas this year, but I thought that there still had to be a bit tradition this year, and this time tradition will be somewhat challenged! It will be decorated with a bit of mini-ornaments a little later. So I already feel a lot more 'Christmassy' than I have done previous seasons.

Feedback

As You can see, I now have a comment space on the blog, and I would appricate your feedback very much.  About if you want more about Christmas, de-cluttering or have other wishes.

Ønskesedlen - The Wish List

I write wish lists all year around. Every time I get a new wish, I revise the list. That way all the impulsive wishes will be removed, and the things which I really want, stay. Often I want something which I wouldn't spontaneously would go and buy for myself. But things, for which you have to make savings for, don't go there. You shouldn't strain other people with expensive wishes. You have to do the savings for that yourself. This year the list contains books, a bordeaux scarf  and a thin short silver necklace for a pendant which was a gift from a person very dear to me.

Den glade juletid? - The Merry Christmas Time?

In MetroXpress (A Danish newspaper) you could last week read that 22% of all Danes don't look forward to Christmas. It is more than one fifth. The reason should be that the expectations are too high, you have to participate in too many family gatherings, and it drains the economy. But it's all something you can control yourself! Gather the family and decide, how the month should be spent. How many parties you want to participate in and with whom, and sort all unimportant things away. Regarding the economy it goes without saying that you should never buy bigger presents than you can afford. Many presents do not give anyone more happiness. Presents well thought out do. This is not easy, and you probably have to swallow some 'camels', but don't spend this month with duty traditions. You should be kind to others - and to yourself. So try driving in 1st gear all month - and enjoy!

Julen kommer snigende! - Christmas comes creeping!

I have to admit that I am not the most 'Christmassy' person in the world. I think that Christmas is cosy. It is nice with warmth and lights in a dark period. But I am not crazy about a lot of decorations. But yesterday it sort of sneaked up on me anyway. I got a gift bag in which there were 2 red candles. They fit right into my Nagel candle holders, and immediately it looked a bit like Christimas.

Jul i København - Christmas in Copenhagen

 Strøget - The Pedestrian Street

Et godt råd - Good advice

Dejlige dufte fra bageren - Lovely smells from the baker

Blæser-musik - Music for hornblowers

Man kan købe alt! - You can buy anything! ..

.. også pandekager - also pancakes

Levende model i vinduet - A live model in the shop window
- mere feminin end  de fleste kvinder - more feminine than most women

Juleudstilling for voksne - Christmas decoration for grown-ups..

.. og for børn - and for children

Cafe Norden, her får man den bedste suppe - Cafe Norden, here you get the best soup

Men vi er ikke alle lige privilegerede - But we are not all equally privileged...

..til at deltage i hjerternes fest - to participate in the festival of hearts

You would think that it was December 23rd today - Lots of people and good atmosphere.

With a little help from ....

Kaj Bojesen gardister - The Kaj Bojesen guardsmen

Nah, it is probably 'a lot of help' from my favorite persons. Now my blog has a logo and a much needed face lift. All the result of an unexpected and very nice visit. So this is a celebration of the new look.
The pictures from my little trip to Copenhagen comes tomorrow.

I have just come home from seeing the musical 'The Full Monty' played at the part of the Danish Royal Theater called The Starling Box, which is a smaller stage. The play was good. But that is not what I will share. It is the ceiling. It is a piece of art.  Tomorrow I will go to Copenhagen again - this time for looking at the Christmas decorations and buy a few presents, which I will tell more about.

Smukke silhuetter - Beautiful Silhouttes

It has become really cold now. There are almost no leaves on the trees anymore. So beautiful.

Om 10 dage - In 10 Days

Click the photo to read the full article

Spis kvalitet frem for kvantitet,  lidt, men godt.

Now I have to acknowledge that there is 10 days until the Christmas month starts, and with that comes a lot of festivity which often has to do with food. Good food, delicious food, fat food, too much food. It is said that you don’t get fat between Christmas and New Year, but between New Year and Christmas, and of course it is true, but it is still a good idea to start the new year with keeping the usual weight. So make up your mind to follow some simple rules. When you meet a temptation, ask yourself if it is worth the calories. Only eat first class food. Eat quality and not quantity, little but good. If you are invited to at buffet or lunch, then only eat the things you don’t get every day. Forget about the everyday stuff. You can eat that any other day. When you go out, make up your mind to take only one portion. Then there is a good chance that you will maintain your normal weight. So eat with your mind, and not with the eyes and the sweet tooth.

Gemte skatte - Hidden Trasures

Click the photo to read the full article

Many of us put really good things in the basement. Things, which we don't make up our minds what to do with, because of the argument 'maybe I will need it later'. Nine times out of 10 the things stay in the basement and will never see the light of day, and unfortunately a lot of them become useless. There is a big risk that things get broken or damaged in other ways. Instead you should give them away. Give them to organization which will sell them to get money for a good cause, or you should sell them. You will not miss them, if you haven't missed them the last couple of years.

Et nyt sted - A new place to go

Click the photo to read the full article

Hyggeligt på et grå dag - Nice on a gray day
Og en lille smule kitch - And a little bit of kitch

During these days, where I have been to a part of Copenhagen, which I don't know that well, I found a charming place, called Kaffekilden (The Coffee Source) at Tagensvej. When you work as concentrated as we have, food and drinks are important - and a well earned  break, so by coincidence we found this place. Good atmosphere, good coffee, good prices, and sweet employees.

Oprydning færdig! - Clean-up Done!

- Anybody out there a bit envious?
Enkelt og effektivt - Simple and effective
Ting, der bruges ofte står på toppen - Things often used is on top

After approx. 50 hours of hard physical and mental work my client has reached the goal line. 88 big moving boxes have become 32 smaller plastic boxes, 12 big boxes has gone to the 2nd hand shop and 200 kg of paper and other stuff have been driven to the recycle place.Triumph! My client has really done a great job, and, and he has during this process identified his way of collecting things, which will help him further on not to repeat old habits. Because with professional support he has done the work himself! I am proud of what he has done, and I am sure that he will get more and more happy about it in time. Mission impossible has been performed.

Oprydningen dag 6 - Clean-up Day 6

Click the photo to read the full article

Today became ½ a workday. We made my client’s basement ready for the boxes. But it was good to take a break, because it is really difficult to part from things. The memories come rolling in. If you are a person, who has been saving everything, you will relive your childhood, your teenage years, your youth etc – good and bad. It is exhausting, but my client has started feeling relived and has decided on using the day tomorrow to ‘boil’ down his things even more. The photos show a collection of toy bedouins, which belonged to an older family member. Awesome, right?

Oprydning dag 5 - Clean-up day 5

Click the photo to read the full article

Finally back from a clean-up day, which started out dull. The promised trailer wasn't, where it was supposed to, so we started with one hour delay, but then we really got going. We filled the trailer with 22 big bags which we took to the recycling place, and we have until now packed approx. 15 boxes for the second hand shop, and the boxes with things my client wants to keep is getting ready. It is falling into place. Tomorrow we take a day off. Both my client and I need a day out of the warehouse, where we work.

Oprydningen dag 4 - The Clean-up Day 4

Click the photo to see the full article

- A small fragment of the things to go!

The clean-up goes well. We are now through the rough sorting of all 88 boxes! Now what’s left ‘only’ need to be boiled down to approx. 10 boxes. That is the tough goal. But my client was glad today. No more surprises are waiting for him, and there has been a lesson in every box, which has been opened. Especially paper is difficult and slow to sort. So take a good advice: Make up your mind about every piece of paper which comes into your home, when you hold it in your hand the first time. Don’t wait until ‘later’. Put important paper in place immediately. If there’s an article in the newspaper, which you find interesting, but haven’t read when the next paper arrived, then you probably will not do it, so throw it out. Personal papers should be in a separate binder as well as tax papers and expenses. Save as little as possible, and be sure that it is important. Do something about it now so you don’t get caught in a paper trap later.

En fantastisk gave - A Fantastic Gift

Click the photo to read the full article

Dag 3.

Day 3. We are still cleaning up. It is a great experience, we both learn a lot. We have come to the point where things are a bit messy. The situation where things get rough, before they become good. But we are both in good spirits and continue tomorrow. And in the middle of this work process, I have received a fantastic gift. A very close family member has found an old camera and given it to me. It is an Art Nouveau camera from approx. 1934 called Billy Clack, and my family’s photos were taken with that, until Instamatic was born. It is very charming, and I am thrilled to have it. Now I will find a good spot for it.

Dag 2 - Day 2

Click the photo to read the full article

To clean up 30 years of collecting things and paper is hard. Mentally hard. The process goes well, but it is time consuming. My client is working his way steadily through the masses. One of the conclusions he has made is that he will not save paper, notes and thing for ‘some time in the future’, because things do not work that way. If you don't do things now, which means when the thought is fresh, it will not happen. You have to launch a project, when the idea occurs. You should repair things, so you will start using them immediately. Otherwise it is not going to happen, because other things - the now - gets in the way. Flowers for my client! He is doing a fantastic job.

Første oprydningsdag - First Clean-up Day

Click the photo to read the full article

Sådan så det ud fra start - This is how it look from start
- og sådan så det ud, da vi gik hjem - and this is how it looked, when we home

So the clean-up has started. Well settled in the storeroom we started out with all the things which were not in boxes, but were packed in  7 big plastic bags or not packed at all, and then we went on to the boxes. At the end of the day 72 boxes were left, which might not sound as if we have been busy, when we started out with 88 boxes, but my client owns a company, and have more papers than most, and that is time consuming to go through, because you have to make a decision about every piece of paper. Therefore we agreed to take the boxes, as they were randomly put in the room from one end, so we get a mix of sorting things and sorting paper, as the boxes with thing don’t take so much time, and they are not as strenuous. We have started well, but it is quite clear that it is straining to make decision for several hours. We will continue tomorrow.

Det mest spændende projekt - The Most Exciting Project

Click the photo to read the full article

Today a load full of boxes was moved from 2 basement rooms to a big warehouse. I have a new client, who all through his life has taken good care of his things and put them in nice plastic boxes, when he didn't have space or use for them anymore. It has grown into 90 big boxes plus the thing which cannot be stored in the boxes. Now he feels that all the things are restricting him, and he wants space in his life, so Saturday we start sorting everything. Some thing must be sold, some given away, and some thing will be throw out. I am there to help practically as well as when things get though, because they will be. He is going to relive a whole life of memories. But it is of vital importance to say thank you and goodbye to the things you don't need or use, so you have give room for at new kind of life with fewer quality things. It is a very exiting job, and I will keep you updated about how it goes, and what happens along the way.

En opslagstavle - A Bulletin Board

Click the photo to read the full article

It is inspirational to have a bulletin board, but when you live in a small place, it easily becomes rather messy to look at. I like having nice pictures hanging which says something to me, so I have made a bulletin board on the inside of one of my closet doors. So every time I open the door, I get a small kick or a small experience.

Julebudget - Christmas Budget

Click the photo to read the full article

Maden. Værtsgaver til dem, der holder frokoster. Arrangementer, du vil deltage i.

It cannot be hidden anymore: In 24 days we will enter the Christmas month. Dark, cosy, and – expensive! It is a very good idea already now to decide, how much money you can/will spend during December. Take a piece of paper and start writing without thinking too much. Who do you want to give presents to, and how much can each gift cost Are you going to travel to visit family? Then you should find out, what the ticket will cost. The food? Gifts for hosts who send invitations to gatherings. Events which you will participate in. It is much more expensive than you normally expect. But don’t pretend. Redo your budget. It is an honest thing to downscale the numbers. Be open about it. The ones, close to you, will understand that you give and contribute with what you have. The ones who don’t understand – forget about them.
The Christmas tree is a photo copy which is going up on my living room door, because I am going to travel during Christmas, but you will hear more about that.

At sælge en samling - To sell a collection

Click the photo to real the full article

For many years I have collected everything what I have been able to find made by the illustrator and artist Christel Marott. It had  become a collection of 30 big prints, paper dolls, books etc. I didn’t have room for hanging the prints, so I had them in a closet, and now and again I took them out and enjoyed them. One day I saw that one of the prints had a tear, because I moved the collection from place to place, and I had to realize that this was not the way to appreciate them, and as I didn’t have the space to hang them, I decided to sell the collection, even though I knew that it would be difficult for me. I didn’t at all want to sell to the first buyers  who came. So I had almost given up, when a young couple came. The prints were lying on the table, and the young girl forgot everything about me and her boyfriend and was all over them with a lot of ah’s and oh’s. The young man wanted to give her the collection, and after one glance at them, I knew that my collection would get a home, where they were appreciated – and not just lye around in my closet just to get ruined. I have never regretted the sale. But I kept one print.
